Those in other health and related professions, who work in the field of brain injury, will gain an understanding of how cognition and its impairment can affect behaviour. The content of the second edition has been expanded and updated to reflect advances in neuropsychology, and to incorporate an evidence based consideration of occupational therapy practice.

In Part 1, theoretical frameworks are introduced and guide an analysis of the relationship between cognition and occupational performance. The occupational therapy process is applied to cognitive rehabilitation, with a consideration of treatment approaches and methods of assessment and intervention.

Part 2 outlines the theoretical background to cognitive function together with the effects of brain injury. Chapter by chapter, each of the major elements of cognition is presented, together with the impairments that may arise from brain injury. This combined approach to the study of cognition is supported by case studies. Suggestions for assessment and intervention are provided, relating back to the occupational therapy process described in Part 1.

Always there must remain the Unknownable—the Absolute. "Om," therefore, is the word we use to express this Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent power. The term "mortal" we have already defined. The compound immortal, applied to individual man, stands for one who has made his "at-one-ment" with Om, and who has, while still in the mortal body, re-cognized himself as one with Om. This is what it means to escape the "second death," to which the merely mortal consciousness is subject. This is the goal of every human life; this is the essence, the substance of all religious systems and all philosophies. The only chance for disputation among theologians and philosophers, lies in the way of accomplishing this at-one-ment. There is not the slightest opportunity for a difference of opinion as what they wish to accomplish. Admitting then, that the goal of every soul is the same—immortality—(the mortal consciousness cognizing itself as Om), we come to a consideration of the evidence we may find in support of this axiom. This evidence we do not find satisfactory, in spirit communication; in psychic experiences; in hypnotic phenomena; and astral trips; important, and reliable as these many psychic research

Dr. Alexander James McIvor-Tyndall was a colorful gentleman, noted to be “one of the most astounding workers ever to appear on the platform. His exhibition of mind-reading was spectacular. As a lecturer he has had few equals.” He and his wife both served the church in Lily Dale. It appears that at the same time his wife was Pastor of the Lily Dale Church, Dr. McIvor-Tyndall was Pastor of the First Spiritualist Church in Syracuse, NY, having been ordained by the National Spiritualist Association in 1923. Mr. and Mrs. McIvor-Tyndall often traveled to Florida during the winter months to serve Cassadaga Camp. The McIvor-Tyndall’s owned a home at 9 Buffalo St. and it was reported that he died in Lily Dale, NY on December 10, 1940.

This should be a school textbook

An honest, unbiased and refreshing look at a subject that we secretly hold inside us with very little understanding.
To help understand that other religions are no different, than what we are on the inside is well described by our authors.
That love is a universal force will be evidenced by the reader.
This would be an ideal school textbook used for spiritual guidence, to help understand that invisable sphere of immortality that dwells within and around us.
This concious awareness needs to be tought early in our lives not at the end, as it is now done by natural growth in ones wisdom.
A great narrative for the heart and soul.

Much broader scope than I expected

The book starts out with a description of illumination (enlightenment, nirvana, samadhi, etc.). Then goes on to discuss in individual chapters the environment, culture, upbringing, etc. of people such as Christ, Buddha, Mohammed, Whitman, Wordsworth, etc.. The summary at the end was more like preaching than a summary of the important points made in the book. All things considered I found this book useful in "connecting the dots".

Based on an undergraduate course given at the University of Sheffield, Dr Sharpe has included numerous examples which demonstrate how frequently these ideas are useful in concrete, rather than abstract, settings. The book also contains many exercises of varying degrees of difficulty together with hints and solutions. Second and third year undergraduates will find this a readable and enjoyable account of a subject lying at the heart of much of mathematics.

Polemic but inspirational.

Even when we know that there are issues with some parts of it between Ingrid and Bill, every page reveals amazing things about Jaco. Those stories have the power to immerse us in the life of the Greatest Bass Player in the World. From the beginning and the good moments, to the suffering of an unknown psychiatric illness. Jaco even now is the greatest, and his life shall be preserved through the memories that survived him and that are transmitted by Word of Mouth. Jaco shall live forever on all of us.

The Man or the Myth

Jaco Pastorious's story is a very interesting one; certainly fitting to the extremes of the American culture. Even if you are not a bass player, or even a musician, you should find Milkowsky's chronicle of Jaco an to be an interesting, emotionally charged, reading. However, I think a question is unconsiously brought up by the author. That is, just how far outa whack should you stretch your neck looking up towards Jaco? Honestly, the author is very one-sided about how he presents Jaco: Jaco was a very sweet man of a musical genious that most cannot begin to imagine. He was tormented by a mental disorder and it, unfortunately, caused the ruin ofhis career. The author makes it very clear that he sympathises with Jaco, that he, as best as he can, sees it from Jaco's point of view. I disagree though. I have known several of those who suffer from bi-polar disorder. They do find it hard to get along, but not like Jaco. I don't think his illness was his only problem. I! ! didn't know the man personally, but I don't think that disqualifies me as a critic of him. He made beautiful music, but that doesn't excuse his behaviour either. Milkowsky does a great job telling you how Jaco lived and died, but leaves the reader wondering just what Jaco's problem was. I think it makes the book even more interesting though.

As I read the book I was overcome with the sense that there wasn't anybody in Jaco's life that wanted to offer some substantial help in his recovery,( just for the sake of preserving one of the 20th century's greatest contemporary composers who had barely started to show the world as a whole what he stood for) but, rather just for the sake of making it to the next show to fatten someone's wallet. Unfortunately even that small percentage of help disappeared when his so-called friends and hanngers on lost intrest. Overall I think Bill Milkowski did a fantastic job of portraying Jaco's life story. He wrote the story as someone who missed a friend and not a business associate.Hats' off to him, and shame on those who caugth on only after it was too late and chose to opportunise on his music at the expense of his estate, (posthumously ofcourse).

Helpful Advice!

Pretty much everyone I watch on YouTube is a vlogger, and I've always wanted to give it a try myself. I've done a few videos, but I was mostly just trying on my own. How To Vlog is a really great breakdown of different methods and important concepts to do with vlogging. The book is very introductory and covers all the basics you'd need to know, including the right kind of equipment to have and how to act in front of the camera to appeal to an audience. There's also information about editing, which is a big part of the process. I found this book very helpful!

Great book written by the author about Vlogging! I have always been curious about people who owns and make their own videos and post on Youtube to attract traffics. This book gives nice details of how the process goes, and what you need to get started! I love the parts that talks about how one should sound like in the video to best communicate with the audiences. Great explanations, it solves the myth that these bloggers just talk like that in real life.

An essential reference tool for aromatherapists

With so many books on aromatherapy available, it's difficult to know what's really valuable. The authors of so many books have few medical or scientific credentials and take a highly impressionistic approach. For this reason alone, to find a book like this written by a chemist is a rare treat. And, since this is a chemist writing in 1936, we find the source of much of today's common knowledge of the discipline - from the man who made it a discipline and coined the word 'aromatherapy'. Translator Louise Davids and editor Robert Tisserand offer us a natural-reading translation with the added benefit of an editor's introduction which places the book in its historical context. Tisserand points out that "as a chemist Gattefosse was not a part of the natural therapy movement and he did not share [today's] holistic, 'alternative' approach." That comes as a great relief to those of us who want some reliable chemical basis for our choices of oils. Even more useful are the copious notes Tisserand provides throughout the book, sometimes to explain terminology, more often with comments on Gattefosse's observations in the light of today's knowledge.

Understanding Essential Oils & Their History

This book is going to attract only the most avid fans of aromatherapy and that's fine. Novices wouldn't be as thirsty for more knowledge in this area so wouldn't appreciate Gattefosse's contribution to the amazing history of essential oils. Simply put, those, who are serious users and teachers in this venue, need this book in their library.

Great book!

I presented a Casual Introduction to Aromatherapy speech at the college here. This book was extremely helpful in providing evidence of history events and research done by Gattefosse. Highly recommended if you are interested in know the beginnings of aromatherapy research.
