Pretty book, easy to understand

The author was well succeed about to show and explain the physics of hydrologic process. The entire volume is full of examples and illustrations which help so much the reader to follow the reasoning from the concept to the mathematical formulation to represent it.

Intro to Physical Hydro

Excellent teaching resource. I have never seen a book that explains hydrological equations and the variables within them as effectively as this book does. There are plenty of example problems and explainations. The author also explains what methods can be used to measure the variables within the book. I highly recommend this book for anyone teaching a university level hydrology course.

The Best Book in Its Class!

When I stumbled across the book "Make Difficult People Disappear", I was hoping it was a "how-to" manual, but alas, it was not to be. I've read many books in this genre, but none has so grabbed my attention, so fast! The Authors' style draws one right into the story in a way few books do. As you read of Cybil's journey, you begin a slow, but impactful series of Ah-ha moments. The way Ms. Wofford skillfully guides the reader to the key points while using humor and just plain old fun, makes this a joy to read. I get the feel from the way this is written, that it is a message the author passionately believes. I have now read this book through twice. I've given away my copy and am buying at least a dozen more to give to those I know, that will appreciate and benefit from this book. If you haven't guessed by now, I have a very strong opinion about this work. I see it ending up in the "Think and Grow Rich" category of classic "change your thinking" style of books. I strongly recommend this book, especially if most of the people in your life are indeed difficult and you would like them to disappear.

Great Clues for Better Relationships Abound in This Book

About Monica's new book: The story really hits the mark in terms of achieving a way to communicate the value of what you (aka the trainer) do for people in organizations. I learned to care about the characters as I read through it. I especially wanted to know if Cybil could shift and how, especially given that her husband is a Relater. Monica's narrative took me through that journey and delivered a satisfying and believable ending.

I'm predominantly a Relater (other categories tied with 3 checkmarks each in the easy-to-complete test), which is another reason the book resonated with me. I found it to be a truly enjoyable experience in giving words to human behavior and practical clues for better relationships.

Clear, well-written, fun to read, insightfully valuable.

Fabulous book!

Extremely well written and the pictures are just incredible! I went to Kenya last year and met several Maasai during my safari; this book captures every facet of their intriguing life. If you don't think you will ever make it to Africa and are interested in the ways of life of the Massai, then this is the book for you.

Incredibly acurate portrayal of the Maasai and their culture

Maasai, is a wonderful book. It is filled with colorful and vivid photographs. In addition to the incredible photos, the book shares the sheltered Maasai culture with the outside world. This book provides the reader with an unimaginary view of the "tall, proud and aristocratic" tribesmen. Upon completion, you will appreciate their culture like you never imagined possible.

When I first saw the Maasai book I thought to myself, "Oh great another huge boring book I have to read." However when I opened to the first page the magnificent photographs of the book captured me. I was amazed at the quality of them as well as moved by many of the pictures. This book takes you through the journey of the life of a Maasai. It all starts out with an introduction of the Masaai, then talks about youth, circumcision, warriors, elders, and then wraps it all up with a personal reflection by the author on the Masaai. The book was both informative and interesting at the same time.

Previously I had studied the Masaai in school and thought I learned everything. However when I picked up this book I found out that there was much to learn. Some of the interesting facts I learned included the back-story on how the Masaai originated, how they transition from warrior to adulthood, and the importance of elders in the Masaai society. The author's personal reflection about the Masaai talked about how the modern world is affecting the Maasai today. The book began talking about simple Masaai childhood. Childhood was brief and explained what the kids did around the village. Some of the games they engaged in however surprised me because of the danger factor involved in them. It then slowly transitioned to the awkward teenage stage, which is probably the hardest for the people in the society to go through. In the society it is the stage right before circumcision. The book really gave me an inside view of what it's like to be a preteen in that society. It did such a good job that I was able to understand why kids would want to get circumcised in the first place. After that it transitions to the actual process of circumcision, which after reading the book seems pretty scary if you ask me. That was the only part I actually had learned in class. However it also talked about the many processes, which occur after circumcision. The process of this is both physically and mentally challenging but according to the book pays off in the end. This was definitely one of the most interesting parts of the book because I could sort of relate to them in a way, since I am a teen myself.

After finishing the that chapter and looking at many great photos, the book starts to talk about the intense process of warrior hood. I was surprised how much the Maasai value certain things in warrior hood such as their hair. After warrior hood the book briefly talks about lives of the elders then it moves onto the personal reflection. It began with the quote, "From the farm, the tragic fate of the disappearing Maasai tribe on the other side of the river could be followed from year to year. They were fighters who had stopped fighting a dying lion with his claws clipped, a castrated nation. Their spears have been taken from them, their big dashing shields even, and in the Game Reserve the lions followed their herds of cattle." That quote came from the author Isak Dinesen who wrote the book Out of Africa.

The author then began talking about his personal reflection of the Maasai today and explained how modern civilization was enclosing on the Maasai fast. He, being a Maasai himself talked about how the Maasai must adjust to society for their own protection. According to the author since civilization is advancing so quickly the Maasai cannot fight against it and as the old expression goes, "Can't beat them, join them." Unfortunately the Maasai are defenseless to civilization and must take up the basic aspects of it such as education, land, and resources. At the second page of the personal reflection the author talks about the conflict the Maasai have faced with regarding land. Ever since 1901 the Maasai have had conflict with the Europeans. In 1910 their land was taken over for colonization. According to the Author by now the government has taken over the Maasai land and has taken away a lot ever since the Europeans invaded in the first place. In the end he wrote down suggestions for what the government should do to better improve life for the Maasai. He finally ends on the note that although the Maasai are facing difficult obstacles right now, they will still pull through in the end. So if you like books with information, great photography, and a nice smell this book is definitely for you.

A Masteful Exposition on Abhidhamma and Meditation

Sayalay Susila's book presents a survey of the Abhidhamma and its practical application to meditation; it is this unique combination of the two in a clear and concise manner that makes it stand out from other dharma books. Due to this unique approach, I don't know that there is another book with which it can be directly compared. I highly recommend this book.

Part One "The Four Truths" goes through the details of Abhidhamma, with sections on consciousness, cognitive processes, karma and its results, mental factors, matter and Nirvana. This section alone will make the book a worthwhile addition to the library of anyone interested in the Theravada Abhidhamma.

Part Two "The Cycle of Birth and Death" details the processes of death and rebirth, building on the material on cognitive processes from the previous section, and concludes with section on dependent origination.

Part Three "The Escape" deals with actual meditative practices, with sections on the Noble Eightfold Path, serenity meditation, four element meditation (a practice rarely taught in the west)and insight meditation, all building on the framework put together in the first two parts of the book.

A complicated subject, simplified and readable

Using her extensive knowledge of a subject often considered complicated and impenetrable, the author draws out the essence of the Abhidhamma, the core teachings of the Buddha, in this important book. Presented in straightforward, easy-to-read language with simple analogies and clear anecdotes, the book is equally suitable for beginning meditators as well as those who have followed the Buddha's path for many years.

Although easily read, the book is perhaps most valuable as a study manual, a reference that answers many of the detailed questions that naturally arise as one progresses upon the Noble Eightfold Path. Beginners might naturally progress more slowly through the material, while an advanced meditator who has read and studied the Satipatthana Sutta and longed to understand the details behind this and other suttas will certainly appreciate the analytical nature and direct style in which the material is presented.

Neff’s writing is infused with history and myth, and a sense of adventure: add well-rounded characters, and this makes for a captivating read.  New readers should start with the first book, The Hound of Rowan (2007) as this one doesn’t look back, but the dark conclusion and its potential consequences will ensure an eager readership for the third. Great sequel, fun and entertaining

Wow. What a great story. For those of you who read Neff's first installment, "The Hound of Rowan", you will really enjoy this book. Right from the beginning, the story line grabs you as we find a more mature Max McDaniels using his newfound powers to get out of a tight situation. Max now has more control of his formidable physical gifts and immediately demonstrates why he is such a threat to "The Enemy". And the book doesn't slow down from there. The battle of good versus evil pitched in Neff's first book intensifies as Max, David Menlo and the rest start a quest around the world to gather critical resources to aid their fight. As the enemy closes in and starts to reshape the world around them, Max and crew must travel to Europe, relying on a network of allies to stay hidden, all while Max continues to learn more about himself, his family, and his responsibilities for the future. After a variety of toe-to-toe interactions with the enemy, a visit to Rassmussen's Workshop, the Second Siege culminates in an epic standoff in the fight for who will control earth as we know it.

This story has the epic feel of "Lord of the Rings", the youthfulness of "Harry Potter", and the sophistication and modernity of "Mission Impossible." I highly recommend this to readers of the first book and encourage new readers to pick up the Hound of Rowan to get started with this great new series.

I cannot wait for the next book to see what happens...

Brilliant Sequel

As compellingly exciting and funny as The Hound of Rowan is, book two of The Tapestry takes the series to a thrilling and sophisticated new level. The story expands exponentially--geographically across the globe, with significant consequences for the world, and an indication of the tremendous challenges to be faced by the chosen young heroes Max and David. To meet these demands, they must grow up strong and fast, and their personal development is as fascinating as the circumstances in which they find themselves. The Second Siege is filled with exciting action, mythological grandeur, and much to think about in terms of both the formation of personal character and the larger stage of history.

Wow! I could not put it down

"The Second Siege" is book two of The Tapestry that takes the series to a thrilling and sophisticated new level. You become deeply involved with the two main characters Max and David as they grow and develop. You can't help but personally feel their highs and lows throughout. I am a serious Harry Potter fan but may have found its rival. This is a great book! I can't wait for the next one in the series.
