With desperation, dedication and determination, and the help and love of his family and friends, Chad set out to reinvent himself, take risks, and do things he never thought he could or would do, even when his body was whole and fully functional. He had plenty of black periods to work through, to let go of his old ideas about who he was supposed to be, and the anger and frustration of not being able to be that. It hasn t been an easy journey, but it has transformed him into a man unlike anything he ever thought he could or would be. He s dedicated his life to service for others who have lost functionality, or perhaps never had it. He became a living example of what is possible, if one is willing to invent different ways to do what has to be done. In order to teach others, he had to invent those new and different ways of doing things for himself. He had to walk the talk. Now... I purchased this book because I was motivated to learn more about Chad after he challenged my daughter to serve ice cream for dinner when he spoke to her group in Illinois. I was amazed that he could get my very focused daughter to do something like this. After following Chad's Facebook site and reading his book, I now understand. This is one man who can do anything he sets his mind to, and his ability to break goals down into individual steps is encouraging to all of us who have been overwhelmed by the "mountain before us". One of my favorite things about this book is that it doesn't read like most motivational books. It's not dry, it's not all sad. This is Chad's story and there are tears and shock as well as realistic fears. There is also great love, laughter and celebration. Take the chance and read this book. On April 3, 2001, Chad was involved in a serious accident leaving him a quadriplegic. Chad s dreams were not paralyzed that day. Since that fateful event Chad has done the following: Started Chad Hymas Communications, Inc., a professional speaking company, designed to motivate businesses and corporations to use their wings and reach seemingly impossible heights. At 37 years of age Chad is the youngest ever to receive the CPAE award and be inducted into the National Speaker Hall Of Fame. Last year Chad spoke at 220 different events traveling just over 300,000 miles. Speaking on 5 Continents and 4 Countries Chad has shared his personal message and entertained many audiences from organizations such as Wells Fargo, Blue Cross Blue Shields, Ford, IHC, Coca Cola, and the Utah Jazz. He is a member of the National Speakers Association and is a CSP (Certified Speaking Professional). A designation achieved by fewer than 8% in the speaking industry. He was most recently inducted into the Speaker Hall Of Fame. The past president of the National Speakers Association Utah chapter. Maintaining his hobby and dream of managing a 5100 acre elk preserve with his father, Kelly. He has raced in marathons, and in the summer of 2003, Chad set a world record by wheeling his chair from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas (513 miles). Participating in wheelchair athletic competition including basketball, rugby, wheelchair racing, and officiating basketball (a dream come true). Spending many hours with other injured individuals in therapy, encouraging them to overcome their challenges, focus on dreams and make them a reality, and to love life for all that it has to offer. Chad, you have written a very inspirational Book, and I think it will have a very positive affect on my life. I suffered a life threatening accident, that has left me permanently disabled, but not nearly as serious as yours, but one that has left me feeling very helpless. It has been difficult for me to achieve a positive enough attitude to keep on going. Your attitude and ability to keep moving in a very positive direction are very encouraging. I appreciate the way that you mentioned your beliefs and religion, but never proselytized, which would have been a big turn-off for me. You were awfully open about your life and accident, along with your disabilities which is greatly appreciated, and must have been somewhat difficult to do. Thanks!

Great read from a great person

This is a very good book. One I would highly recommend. I have had the privilege of knowing Chad for seven years now and he has been an inspiration of mine. This book has given me a greater resolve of how to deal with my own challenges. My 12 year read the book as well and loved it.

Life-Affirming, Gut-Wrenching, Awe-Inspiring!

I have to admit, I carried Chad Hymas' book in my briefcase for a couple of months, always intending to read it during my travels, but didn't have the energy to crack it open fearing a somewhat depressing journey. I couldn't have been more wrong. What an inspiring journey Chad (and his loved-ones) took me on. Yes, his account of the accident that caused his paralysis was traumatic, but the story is not one of tragedy. It's not even really a tale of triumph at its core, but rather a witness to the creation of heroes.
To his credit, and to my surprise, Chad is not really the hero, though others may disagree. He makes it clear that the heroes were those around him: from the rescue team and hospital personnel, to his father, his mentor Art Berg, his brothers, rehab nurse and even his young kids. But most of all, the true hero of his story is his wife Shondell - his angel. As a reader, I couldn't help to put myself in his place wondering, hoping that my wife would have that level of strength, courage and love for me to be the hero that Shondell was for Chad. Very thought-provoking stuff. This book is a drama, a comedy, an inspiration tome as well as a book of life and business wisdom all wrapped in one. In a long list of achievements in Chad's life, writing this book is just one of a long string of victories hard won with many more yet to come. Loved it.
