About the Author
D.G. Kaye was born and resides in Toronto, Canada. She loves to read, shop, travel, and play poker when she gets the chance. Kaye has been writing about her thoughts on life since she was a young girl, as pen and paper became her emotional outlet. Through the years of compiling her thoughts and memories in a journal, she wrote this book as a cathartic release. Kaye wanted to share her story in recognition of the many people who struggle with their past, perhaps shedding light on how powerfully a mother can impact a child throughout her life. Kaye is also the author of Meno-What? A Memoir-memorable moments of menopause, Words We Carry-essays on life and women's self-esteem, Have Bags, Will Travel - memoirs of an Over-packer, and P.S. What a great find!

Yesterday I happened to come across this book and I am so glad that I did. It made me laugh, it made me sad, it made me angry but most of all, it made me cheer for D.G. Kaye! She writes with candor and insight, passion and heart. It is an easy comfortable read, much like having a conversation and I couldnt put the book down until the conversation was over. You can feel the little girl's worry and confusion, the teenager's guilt and angst, the sadness and the searching of the young woman and finally the strength of the adult. Ms. Kaye writes about the effects her mother's actions has had on her entire life and the decisions she has made but she is never mean spirited about it and it makes you love her more.
It is a book that makes you think, reflect, understand and most of all it is a book that shows you that with the right attitude and beliefs, you can forgive and move forward. I loved it!

A MUST-READ BOOK!

Boundless Compassion

This is a memoir about the power of guilt. It is a story about a woman's boundless compassion towards an emotionally abusive mother and the toll it takes on her own health and happiness.
The story has many layers: her loving relationship with her father, her siblings, her dear aunt and her different romances.
But basically it is a memoir of letting go of guilt. Kaye shows us how strong a mother/daughter bond is, even when it is destructive. Her wish to get out of the relationship is held back by guilt - a guilt which in itself is toxic.
Kaye is not a best selling author, nor is she a rock or movie star nor won any Olympic Gold medals. As memoirs go, she is on the bottom rung of "important" people to read about. Yet, her memoir is one of these books that I couldn't put down.
She especially shines in the romance sections and writes with a good mastery of suspense.
Perhaps its only flaw is that it is at times a bit repetitious but overall for anyone who loves strong, courageous and loving protagonist MG Kaye proves to be one in her own memoir.
